Shanti Baishya began working in basketry at the age of 12, after her marriage. She has learnt the craft from Late Gopal Baishya. She makes traditional items like baskets and decorative items like flower vases, pen stands, flower baskets, hair clips, lamp shades and jewellery boxes. Shanti has participated in fairs in Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Goa. She has won the District Award thrice.

Usha Baishya

Usha Baishya learnt the nuances of the craft from her parents and further honed her skill after her marriage under Gopal Baishya who is a leading artist of Dakshin Dinajpur. She makes traditional items like winnow and basket and diversified products like pen stand, flower vase, flower basket and lamp shade. Baishya showcased her products in fairs in Kolkata, Siliguri, Asansol, Durgapur,Purulia, Ranchi and Dumka.

Gostho Baishya

Gostho Baishya a Mukha(masks) artist has been making Mukha (masks) since his third grade. He has learnt the craft from Late Gopal Baishya. He makes wooden as well as bamboo masks. Gostho carves on whole bamboo pieces and makes products out of dried bamboo roots. Baishya has participated in fairs in Delhi, Jaipur, Coochbehar, Kolkata and Siliguri. He has won the State Award twice in 2013-14, 2017-18 and 2018-19.

Gautam Baishya

Gautam Baishya is a new generation bamboo craftsperson who has mastered the craft. He learnt the craft from his father, Late Gopal Baishya. Gautam now trains crafts persons under DIC programmes held across North Bengal. He carves whole bamboo poles, makes furniture of bamboo, designs Durga Puja pandals and works in the interior decoration sector. He has won the District Award in 2004-05, 2008-09 and 2013-14. He has participated in fairs all across West Bengal.

Anjali Mahali

Anjali Mahali is a resident of Gazol in Malda district. She has been practising basketry for the last 20 years. She has learnt the craft traditionally from her father Puran Mahali. Anjali is specialised in making home décor items ranging from baskets, boxes, lampshades and other show pieces. She has participated in fair and exhibitions around – Kolkata, Siliguri, Medinipur and Berhampore. Anjali Mahali has received Malda district award in 2005.

Srinath Tudu

He is a resident of Majlisbag village under Gazol block of Malda district. Srinath has been involved in the craft since 1999 and learnt the technicalities of Basketry from his father Jotil Tudu. He has participated in many training programs around the state and also participated in fair & exhibitions in Mumbai, Kerala, Pune, Delhi, Hyderabad, etc. Over the years of whole hearted contribution in Basketry, he has been awarded twice in the district and once in the state.

Purno Chandra Das

Purno Chandra Das started working as a bamboo crafts person in the year 1996 and was trained under DC Handicrafts in Tripura. He has learnt the craft from Dhirendra Nath Roy of Bardhaman who was his guru. He makes table lamps, pen stands, hairclips, magazine holders, incense stick holders, candle stands and jewellery boxes. Das has participated in fairs in Kolkata, Delhi, Goa, Pune and Chandigarh.
