Dhokra weaving is an indigenous tradition of making jute mats in the villages of Uttar and Dakshin Dinajpur districts. Weaving is done on home-based back strap looms.  Jute, the ‘Golden Fibre’, is home grown and is the raw material used for weaving. Dhokra weaving provides livelihood to scores of women in the area.

Dhokra as an art form has been included since RCCH I (2016 onwards). There are 1468 Dhokra weavers in Uttar Dinajpur and 2634 weavers in Dakshin Dinajpur.
