Sunil Pal of Ranibandh in Bankura is a popular Jhumur artist who started learning music from a very young age. He went on to train under two legendary singers — Salabat Mahato and Dhirendranath Sardar. Sunil has performed not only across West Bengal but also in cities like Lucknow, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Dehradun, Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Bhubaneswar. He also teaches the rich tradition of Jhumur to young artists.

Born in Raidih village of Purulia, his tryst with folk music, and specifically Jhumur, began at the age of seven, under the tutelage of grandfather Jugal Kishore Mahato and uncle Sripati Mahato. Muktinath excelled in education also and completed his graduation with honours in Geography. Soon after, he came under the wings of Salabat Mahato, a Jhumur maestro. Resolving to dedicate his life to Jhumur, Muktinath gave up a government job to pursue music. He is one of the best Jhumur exponents today and performs across the country.
