Hiralal Mahato, an experienced Sabai artist from Raisol village in the district of Jhargram. He has been practicing the artform for over 35 years and has been a major name in the artform and has also received great recognition. Hiralal’s one of the best works of art till date is a Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata which has been designed with Sabai grass. On a daily basis he is great at making fruit baskets, trays, coasters and various wall hangings. Hiralal has participated in various fairs and exhibitions in and around Kolkata.

35 years Laxmi rani Munda is an enterprising Sabai artist belonging from Mirgichami village of Purulia. Handcrafting things has been her passion since early days of her childhood. A series of training workshops organized in Purulia as part of a strategy to empower women from indigenous communities with handicraft skills enabled Laxmirani to transform her passion for handicraft into profession. She started weaving a range of innovative products using Sabai. With her flawless skills, she now makes a range of products and attends different fairs and exhibitions. Laxmi rani is also an inspiration to other women of her community, who are working with natural fibre and aspire for a better and brighter future. With her artistic touch and goodwill, Laxmi rani has crossed the boundaries of her village and weaving connection with the art lovers of the world.
