Areas in Purba Bardhaman including Alefnagar, Warispur, Belemath, Bishnupur, Ganrai, Bhuyara, Harekrishnapalli, Mirsa, Bagrai, Ausgram, Itachanda, Khodda Dariyapur, Pubar, Pubar Mirdhapur, Jaykrishnapur, Bannabagram, Srikrishnapur, Raykona, Basantapur and Nanoor in Birbhum have over the years grown to be vibrant kantha hubs. Under the aegis of this project, so far, a total of 1354 women have been trained in Purba Bardhaman and Nanoor on multiple aspects, which include learning new patterns of stitches like ‘Agufore’, ‘Bhagkuthi’, ‘Ran’, ‘Jiri Ran’, ‘Chorki’, ‘Tali’ etc. Kantha weavers are also trained on business strategy, communication, digital and financial skills so that they not only derive the capability to initiate and sustain independent entrepreneurial ventures but also derive the ability to communicate about the history and practice of their aesthetic tradition to outsiders. The trainings have also resulted in creation of a range of innovative and diversified products of high market value.
