Traditional: The hub at Ghurni grew under the patronage of Maharaja Krishnachandra (1710–1783) who was a patron of the arts, including literature and music.hen the Government of Russia wanted a bronze figurine of Rabindranath Tagore for display in one of their national parks, they sought the help of master craftsman Kartick Chandra Pal to give them a clay model.

Contemporary: Presently, the artists make a wide range of decorative products. Many of the craftsperson have moved to plaster of paris work/ fibre casting. They make small miniature figures to large figures. The master craftmen also make idols during Durga puja.
