OIMO

Initiated in 2006, the renowned OIMO Festival in Kyrgyzstan celebrated its latest edition from July 26-30, 2023 in Bishkek, the nation's capital. This year's congregation saw an amalgamation of artists not just from Kyrgyzstan but also from Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and notably, India.

The festival's inauguration was graced by dignitaries including Mr. Shiva Mohan Singh (Second Secretary of Commerce, Indian Embassy), Mr. Rajesh Kumar (Second Secretary of Politics, Indian Embassy), Ms. Mozgacheva Victoria Andreevna (Deputy Mayor, Bishkek), Mr. Rinat Askarbekovich Bakeev (Head of the Department of Cultural Heritage Preservation, Kyrgyz Ministry of Culture), and Ms. Dinara Chochunbaeva, the visionary founder of OIMO Festival.

A hub of artistry and craftsmanship, the event was attended by local residents, tourists, and government officials. Representing West Bengal, India were three distinguished artists: Kantha artisan Afrouza Khatun from Birbhum, Patachitra artist Khukurani Chitrakar from East Medinipur, and Dokra craftsman Subho Karmakar from Burdwan. Their exhibits, rooted in Bengal's rich heritage, garnered significant acclaim.

The festival's vibrant spirit continued, with the second phase unfolding in Tamchy Village, Issyk-Kul district from August 1-3, and the third phase taking place in Cholpon-Ata town, Issyk-Kul district, from August 4-6. The artistry of Bengal craftsmen swiftly gained popularity, drawing locals from neighboring towns and villages, exemplifying the power of word-of-mouth appreciation.
