Rooted in tradition, the craftsmanship often involves intricate designs and meticulous detailing. Bengal's silver artisans, known for their creativity and precision, bring life to diverse forms such as jewelry, utensils, and decorative items.
The art form is not only a testament to the craftsmanship but also reflects the cultural and historical influences of the region.

Process

The art of silver crafting is a meticulous process passed down through generations. First, tiny silver balls are melted over coal fires, then flattened with precision using hand-operated machines. Skilled artisans carefully shape the molten silver into bowls, lamps, and containers, continuously softening the metal with controlled heat. Once the basic form is achieved, craftsmen expertly carve intricate designs onto the surface, utilizing a specialized paste to aid engraving. After carving, any remaining solid matter is meticulously removed, and the piece undergoes thorough cleaning and finishing touches by master artisans. This intricate process, requiring handmade tools, demands at least seven days to complete each unique creation.
