Dhokra weaving is an indigenous tradition of making jute mats in the villages of Uttar and Dakshin Dinajpur districts. Weaving is done on home-based back strap looms. Jute, the ‘Golden Fibre’, is home grown and is the raw material used for weaving. Dhokra weaving provides livelihood to scores of women in the area.
Total 1957 Dhokra weavers of Uttar Dinajpur and Dakshin Dinajpur district are covered under the RCCH initiative.
