Laal Matir Jhumur
This album, Laal Matir Jhumur, is one in a series of traditional music albums. Jhumur is the lifestyle dance and music of the people of Chotonagpur plateau including Bankura and Purulia districts of West Bengal. The melody and rhythm of Jhumur reflect the mood of the terrain of its origin which includes a landscape filled with Sal, Palas and Mahua trees. As part of the Rural Craft and Cultural Hubs (RCCH) initiative of the West Bengal Government's Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Textiles (MSME&T) and UNESCO aiming at synergizing economic and cultural development, 77 Jhumur songs were field-recorded out of which 44 songs sung by 27 artists have been selected for this album.
